SPECKLE OPTICS BY ROWA MASTERBATCH

Pinneberg, April 2024
The look and feel of a product are playing an increasingly important role in the purchasing decision—starting with the packaging, which gives consumers an idea of the quality of the contents. Products or packaging that resemble natural materials in appearance are proving to be particularly popular with consumers.

The granite look is a very good example of this: In nature, granite occurs in a wide variety of shades with diverse nuances and veining—from light to very dark, from fine to coarse grain, from cool and elegant to sparkling and luxurious. This natural look is attracting growing interest, particularly in packaging for the cosmetics industry, where it is used, for example, in the design of jars and tubes.

The newly developed masterbatches in the ROWALID®-FX-GRANITE and ROWALID®-FX-SPECKLE series from ROWA Masterbatch can achieve precisely these effects in various shades and, for example, reproduce a stoneor speckled look—and that’s not all: ROWA Masterbatch also offers a wide, colorful selection of shades for the speckles themselves.

Similarly, aside from the granite look, a natural effect can be created through the use of special cellulose fibers. These fibers produce a visual effect that does not suggest plastic but rather gives the impression of fabric or paper. In addition to cellulose, a renewable raw material, ROWA Masterbatch is also capable of achieving these effects using byproducts and waste materials from the food industry that would normally be discarded.

Another advantage of this new development from ROWA Masterbatch: The ROWALID®-FX series is not only formulated for polyolefins and TPU, but also imparts the desired effect to engineering plastics such as PC or PMMA. In addition, it is suitable for both injection molding and extrusion processes.
